The Jib Door member’s club is located on the ground floor of The Hotel Indigo, Bath, next to The Elder Restaurant. The space sits on the corner of the site and extends down into the basement and sub-basement of the building with its own dedicated entrance on South Parade.
The design is based around two principal pillars: The Georgian history of the building and the local neighbourhood, and the romance and mischief of Bath itself, with its strong literary history. When working through the design process, we focused on the eccentric elements of this history to create a space that feels both refined and exclusive.
The ground floor space of the club features timber panelling at low level, painted in a dark green tone and complimented with Timorous Beasties, Cloud Toile wallpaper above. The brass and fluted timber detailed bar, complimented with bespoke leather barstools, sits in front of a grand mirrored bottle display. The lounge furniture of the club is upholstered in a mixture of colourful patterned fabrics, mohairs and leathers, contrasting with striking, burnt orange velvet curtains, giving the room a warm, sophisticated ambience.
In the lower level the original stone basement vaults have been retained and transformed into an intimate whiskey bar with traditional timber beams exposed on the ceiling and a dramatic quilted leather fronted table bar offering a cocktail service. The original flagstone flooring has been restored and complimented with traditional rugs, while both patterned and mohair upholstery on the bespoke lounge chairs and a fluted banquette give the space a playful sensibility. Extra dressing items add a sense of drama including specially sourced taxidermy and artwork, statement lamps, butterfly display cases and candles.
